The midfielder had been linked with the Red Devils, who are now set to make a U-turn.

Manchester United have reportedly pulled out of the race to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton.

United had considered a move for the Ecuadorian midfielder when they wanted to end their pursuit of Mason Mount from Chelsea after two of their bids were rejected.

But Chelsea and United agreed on the transfer of the England international, and this consequently brought an end to the interest in Caicedo.

United agreed to sign Mount for a £55 million deal, and the 24-year-old could become the club's first confirmed signing in the summer. The Red Devils will pay an additional £5 million, dependent on appearances and success.

Reports indicate Mount has agreed to a five-year deal with United, with an option for a further year. Mount is expected to give manager Erik ten Hag more options in midfield.

Chelsea were unwilling to sell a player who developed through their ranks and scored 27 goals in 129 games and also provided 22 assists. He is a Champions League winner and has amassed 36 caps for England, and his arrival means United's interest in Caicedo will automatically end.

Caicedo, meanwhile, is heavily linked with a move to Chelsea. He was a subject of interest from Arsenal, but two bids were rejected in January.

The Gunners withdrew their interest after agreeing a deal to sign Declan Rice from West Ham United. The North London club have already confirmed the signing of Kai Havertz from Chelsea.
