Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag gave an injury update on defender Lisandro Martinez after he was carried off against Sevilla.

Manchester United blew a two-goal lead against Sevilla in the Europa League quarter-final on Thursday night.

Two late own-goals from Tyrell Malacia and Harry Maguire gave an average Sevilla side a way back and offered the Spaniards a firm grip before the second leg in Seville.

Martinez' injury compounds United's woes

To add salt to injury, dependable defender, Lisandro Martinez picked up an injury and had to be stretchered off with United having already made all five subs.

Martinez, who has become a firm fan favourite since joining from Ajax last summer, was running with the ball towards the end of the game but suddenly went down under no pressure and began clutching the back of his right foot and ankle.

"We've seen Lisandro drops out after a moment where there was no opponent involved so it does not look great,” Ten Hag told BT Sport.

“I can't say how serious it is at this moment.”

The United boss also confirmed that the reason for withdrawing Raphael Varane at half-time was the result of an injury, the full extent of which is not yet known.

Big picture for Manchester United

For a player who has been immensely vital to Manchester United's performances this season, the coaching staff and the supporters will be praying for positive news as the Red Devils battle to stay in the top four in England and win the Europa League.
