Both teams had a few taking points in the first half, Soltilo Bright Stars forward Nelson Ssenkatuka should have headed home Ibrahim Kasinde’s cross in the 25th minute from the right but missed it by inches.

Maroons FC and Soltilo Bright Stars played out a goalless draw in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League draw on Friday afternoon at the Prisons Grounds in Luzira.

Both teams had a few talking points in the first half, Soltilo Bright Stars forward Nelson Ssenkatuka should have headed home Ibrahim Kasinde’s cross in the 25th minute from the right but missed it by inches.

The home side also registered several attempts by Abel Etrude and Fred Amaku but the defensive partnership of Andy Kyambadde and Warren Buule was on hand to contain the hosts which all but ended the first half.

The second half had a slow start from both sides but picked up pace especially from the visitors through the eventual man of the match Emmanuel Loki but all attempts were thwarted as both teams shared spoils which was the case in the first round.

Soltilo Bright Stars head coach Asaph Mwebaze was happy about picking up a point.

“Maroons were playing their second game while it was our first league game in over two months so it was always going to be difficult to get the rhythm back,” Mwebaze stated.

“The positives are there like picking up a clean sheet and getting a point away from home."

“We looked a bit rusty but had spells where we had the ball but we didn’t get into the rhythm like we always do but we shall go back and prepare for our next game against Blacks Power," he added.

Maroons FC head coach Mohammed Ssenfuma highlighted the lack of combination play in the midfield which didn’t yield goal-creating opportunities.

“We shall take the point, we generally played well, especially in the second half where we looked more organized.” He noted before adding.

“There is a bit of history between both teams and players so it was a bit slow but we also didn’t have good combination play in the midfield which affected our attacks but we shall regroup and improve.”

The draw takes ninth placed Maroons FC to 19 points two behind eighth-placed Soltilo Bright Stars.
