Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel surpassed Mykhaylo Mudryk's goal tally for Chelsea after netting the Biancocelesti's equaliser against Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League

Chelsea’s Mykhaylo Mudryk has found himself the butt of jokes once again after Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel scored for the Biancocelesti to earn them a point in their opening UEFA Champions League match against Atletico Madrid.

Provedeal recues point for Lazio

The Rome-based club was behind for a large portion of the game after conceding just before the half-hour mark to a deflected Pablo Barrios shot, and they would have to wait until the 95th minute to find the equaliser.

Many had counted the match as lost when Provedel planted a glancing header into the bottom corner of his opposite number Jan Oblak’s goal to send the fans in the Stadio Olimpico into raptures.

Provedel’s goal rescued a point for Lazio at the death to start their UEFA Champions League campaign on a dramatic note, but the goalkeeper’s goal caused a huge splash felt outside the I Biancocelesti fandom.

Fans mock Chelsea's Mudryk after Provedel goal

After Provedel’s goal, the inevitable trolling of players from top European clubs who have had difficulty in front of goal kicked off, and Chelsea’s Mudrykk got the brunt of most quips on the night.

The Chelsea forward has failed to score in an official match for the Blues since his controversial January move from Shakhtar Donetsk, and the whole world was reminded of this after Provedel’s sensational equaliser.

Other players were also targeted, as the Manchester United pair of Andre Onana and Marcus Rashford as well as Mudryk’s Chelsea teammate Nicholas Jackson, also felt the sting of social media.

Provedel was one of the best goalkeepers in Serie A last season, helping Lazio finish second behind champions Napoli with the second-fewest goals conceded, but it will be his exploits in front of goal rather than guarding it that will likely get him the most attention from now on.
