The Uganda Cranes goalkeeper, currently on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns, has been in top form for his side, with his recent performance earning him a clean sheet and man of the match award against Sekhukhune United on Friday, something he says motivates him to keep performing better.

It's safe to say that Ismael Watenga is undoubtedly having his best start to a PSL season ever with Lamontville Golden Arrows.

The Uganda Cranes goalkeeper, currently on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns, has been in top form for his side, with his recent performance earning him a clean sheet and man of the match award against Sekhukhune United on Friday, something he says motivates him to keep performing better.

"I feel excited and happy about my second man of the match and third clean sheet for the club,” Watenga told Pulse Sports.

“I personally didn't start the season well though the team was winning but the more clean sheets, the more confidence for me."

"The two Man of the Match awards also push me more because last season I played less games, so to be able to play as often this season is a sign that I am on the right track," he added.

Watenga has featured in eight league outings for his side, picking up three clean sheets and two man-of-the-match awards while the team has managed five wins, two draws and one loss.

Golden Arrows currently occupy the second spot in the PSL log with 17 points, six behind table leaders and defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

The former Vipers and Chippa United goal-minder will now shift his focus to the Uganda Cranes, having been summoned by the interim head coach Morley Byekwaso for two friendlies during the international break.

Having started all five of the team's matches this season, contributing to three victories and a draw, Watenga's latest outing adds significant momentum to both his and Golden Arrows' campaign.

The Cranes are expected to feature in two friendlies against Mali on 13th October in Bamako and Zambia on a date yet to be confirmed in the United Arab Emirates.
