Erling Haaland and Martin Odegaard's Norway miss out on automatic qualification for Euro 2024 after Gavi's strike saw them lose to Spain.

Barcelona star Gavi scored the winner for Spain in their EURO 2024 qualifier clash against Erling Haaland's Norway.

The win against Scotland last week meant beating the Norwegians would guarantee them a place in next year's tournament, and Gavi's strike handed them the ticket to Germany.

How it happened

Ansu Fati was named in the starting lineup in place of Oyarzabal, while Fabian Ruiz came into the team ahead of Mikel Merino.

Despite being the away team at Norway's Ullevaal Stadium, the Spaniards had a peppy start, taking the game to their hosts.

Spain kept Norway's stars Haaland and Martin Odegaard quiet during proceedings and created chance after chance in the first half, but failed to break the deadlock.

They finally broke the deadlock in the second half when the ball fell to Gavi in the box. The Barcelona midfielder fired the ball with his left foot into the bottom corner to give La Roja the lead.

The celebrations were, however, interrupted by a lengthy VAR check for possible offside but soon resumed when the goal stood.

The goal failed to inspire the hosts to get themselves back into the game; instead, it was Spain who pushed hard for a second.

The game ended 1-0 and Spain and Scotland were confirmed as the teams that qualified from Group A.
