Nigeria's Taiwo Awoniyi has been ruled out until next year and Nottingham Forest missed the striker against Brighton and Hove Albion.

Nottingham Forest missed Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi after watching Brighton and Hove Albion come from behind to secure a thrilling win.

The Seagulls, inspired by Pedro, defeated the Reds 3-2 with Awoniyi expectedly missing the explosive clash due to an injury on Saturday.

According to a Pulse Sports report, the 26-year-old will be out of action until next year.

The bad news was courtesy of the Forest manager who said that the Nigerian would need surgery, effectively ruling him out for months.

In their first match without Awoniyi, the Reds allowed a lead slip as Brighton came from behind to record an important victory at the City Ground.

Anthony Elanga’s opener was cancelled by Evan Ferguson’s equaliser before substitute Joao Pedro fired a second half brace to turn the game in Brighton’s favour.

It went from bad to worse when Lewis Dunk was red-carded for arguing with the referee. Just a minute later, Morgan Gibbs-White pulled a goal back for the home side to make the final 12 minutes tense.

Awoniyi’s compatriot at the club, Ola Aina, was a late substitute after he came on in the 90 minutes and had no time to make an impact.

With the result, Brighton extended their unbeaten run to six matches across competitions and are now seventh on the PL table while Nottingham Forest stay 14th.
