Onyango previously won the Premier Soccer League titles three times with Supersport United from 207 to 2010, then with Mamelodi Sundowns from 2015/16, and then from 2017 to last year, consecutively.

Former Uganda Cranes goalkeeper and captain Denis Onyango could be crowned a champion of the South African Premier Soccer League for the tenth time on Saturday evening.

Onyango and his club, Mamelodi Sundowns, are out of the domestic scene with a CAF Champions League fixture against Coton Sport from Cameroon, but proceedings elsewhere could see them crowned the champions of the 2022/23 season.

The defending champions have garnered 59 points after 23 outings, 20 ahead of Onyango’s former team Supersport United with the latter playing om Sunday evening.

In case Supersport United fails to beat Chippa United away at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha, then, mathematically, Sundowns will be crowned champions for a record 13th time.

Onyango, who has been sparingly used this season, will be lifting his 10th league title and cementing his status as the most decorated player in the South African topflight.

He previously won it three times with Supersport United from 207 to 2010, then with Sundowns from 2015/16, and then from 2017 to last year consecutively.
