Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro has stated his confidence in the current defensive set-up of the Nigerian national team despite recent results not going his way.

Peseiro's start to life as Super Eagles manager has not been the best with the Portuguese tactician having lost three (3) of his first six games, winning two (1) and drawing (1).

Under his tutelage, the Super Eagles recently failed to record a victory over the Desert Foxes of Algeria in two different matches during the just-concluded international break.

The Nigerian national team initially played a 2-2 draw with the home-based Algerian national team on Friday, September 23 before falling to a 2-1 defeat against the first-choice Desert Foxes on Tuesday, September 27.

In Tuesday's defeat, Super Eagles goalkeeper Francis Uzoho failed to deal with a long-range effort from Youcef Atal and went on to concede as Terem Moffi's opener was wiped out by the Algerian comeback.

However, Peseiro has leapt to the defence of the Omonia Nicosia goalkeeper, stating that anyone can make a mistake which is what happened with Uzoho.

"Anybody can make a mistake. But the first big mistake was our second goal. We scored a clear goal and the referee said offside. It was not offside. Everybody can see it was no offside," Peseiro told ESPN.

The Super Eagles manager also claimed that his side were good enough in their defensive responsibilities against the Algerians and only need to improve in their attacking.

Peseiro said: "We did a fantastic job in defensive possession. I think we can do more in offensive possession. We can control more of the ball, we can show more character, we can be more aggressive.

“I am more confident than before after this match. We need to improve our organisation, try new dynamics, new set pieces and work hard and believe that we can be better. We have the talents but we have to improve our organisation.”

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are set to play one last match before the end of the year, taking on Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal on November 17 at a venue yet to be determined.
