The former AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia boss believes the potential of Kenyan footballers from the lower divisions is high, namechecking the Murang’a Seal squad as an example.

Kenya Police FC head coach Zdravko Logarusic has praised the level of quality that Murang’a Seal have brought to the Premier League despite losing 2-0 to his charges last Sunday.

Police needed two goals from Clinton Kinanga to give them all three points, which now puts them just seven behind leaders Gor Mahia despite starting the league slowly.

This did not deter Logarusic from heaping praise on Murang’a Seal, saying that the side, which consists mainly of players who were plucked from obscurity to help the side earn promotion, has quality in abundance.

“Muranga Seal gave us a hard time. It is nice to see that football is also played outside Nairobi, that means I see the quality that most of these players from lower league have and you see they can still compete well with players from the Premier League,” Logarusic said.

The former Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards head coach believes that most Premier League footballers were fortunate to have found clubs because they were born or situated in Kenya’s capital, but seeing the quality Murang’a Seal possesses has enabled him to understand there is untapped talent across the country.

“Maybe most of the players in the Premier League they are just lucky, they were born in Nairobi and they had the opportunity and chance to play in the Premier League.”

“But now when I see Murang’a Seal and the amount of clubs that are coming from the lower division, I see how many talents are in Kenya, only we have to wake up Kenyan football in order to involve all those talents we have.”

Meanwhile, the Croatian tactician has revealed that it was a “lucky”  decision to sub Kinanga, who got all two goals to give them the win that worked out as planned.

“Sometimes, we coaches, we are always on the line. If we go a bit left, we look like idiots, if we go a bit right, we look like geniuses. Today, I made a substitution which worked and I hope it will work again.

“Maybe it is a bad feeling, but yeah, they did it.”

Police lie in seventh place on 20 points after 13 league games played.
