Pamzo is a big advocate for having as many community clubs in Kenya as possible.

Shabana FC coach Sammy Omollo ‘Pamzo’ has revealed why he thinks community clubs will help grow Kenyan football.

Pamzo got off to a good start in charge of Shabana as he inspired them to a 5-2 victory over Nzoia Sugar last Sunday.

This instantly earned him the coach of the week award, impressive considering he had not been in a job since leaving Kenya Police 14 months ago.

This follows a resounding 5-2 victory they registered against Nzoia Sugar during the weekend's Football Kenya Federation Premier League duel.

The former defender was tasked with steering the club clear of relegation, and he has now revealed why it is important for Shabana to stay up the league with the greater good of local Kenyan football in mind.

“In Kenyan football, we have to have more community teams because we need this league to have teams that have a massive fanbase,” Pamzo said.

“Shabana are blessed to have such a large fanbase because if you look at all their games (almost) since they returned to the KPL, they have been filling stadiums. These are teams we have to help stay up.”

Pamzo has also revealed the two aspects he is working on in training in order to make his side achieve their targets for the rest of the season.

“I want us to be very good in both phases, when out of possession, we have to be very good and also in possession and  attack, we have to be very good so we can have good balance.

“We should not let our fanbase down, these guys deserve more.”

The former Gor Mahia tactician managed to see off Nicholas Muyoti of Nairobi City Stars, Robert Matano of Tusker, and Ken Kenyatta of FC Talanta to claim the coach of the week award.

All the nominated coaches led their sides to wins in the matches for week 18, but it was Pamzo, a former Harambee Star, who was finally selected as the coach of the week.

Shabana will be facing Ulinzi Stars as Pamzo seeks to make it two wins from two.
