The Burundian gaffer is positive about the team's progress, urging for fan support throughout their journey.

Sofapaka coach Francis Haringingo expressed his satisfaction as his team secured a hard-fought draw against defending champions Gor Mahia in the opening match of the 2023/2024 Football Kenya Federation Premier League season.

The match, held at Moi International Sports Centre in Nairobi, saw Sofapaka take the lead in the first half with a deflected effort from Darius Msagha.

The 2009 champions defended their advantage with unwavering energy, thwarting Gor Mahia's attempts to level the score.

However, with only six minutes remaining on the clock, the center referee pointed to the spot, awarding a crucial penalty that was confidently converted by Gor Mahia's Benson Omala.

Reflecting on the electrifying contest, Coach Haringingo expressed his satisfaction with the outcome.

"It was indeed a great match, characterized by its openness. Earning a point against the reigning champions is certainly a positive outcome," he said.

The Burundian tactician acknowledged the cohesive style of play displayed by Gor Mahia while emphasizing that Sofapaka is currently in a rebuilding phase.

"Our team is newly formed, undergoing a rebuilding phase. As evident from the match, Gor Mahia displayed a cohesive style. My objective is to elevate Sofapaka and strive for victory in at least one, if not two, upcoming tournaments. Success is our aim," Haringingo affirmed with determination in his voice.

Looking ahead to the challenges that lie ahead, the gaffer extended a warm invitation to Sofapaka's loyal supporters.

The fan turnout during the opener was limited, and he called upon the club's faithful to rally behind the team in greater numbers.

"I extend a heartfelt invitation to our supporters to rally in greater numbers. Rest assured, this season holds the commitment of a remarkable improvement," he confidently stated.

Haringingo's extensive experience in football management shines through, as he has previously worked with esteemed teams such as Kiyovu, Mukura FC, and Police FC in the Rwandan Premier League.

His tactical acumen and leadership are expected to play a pivotal role in Sofapaka's journey towards excellence in the ongoing season.

With the draw against Gor Mahia setting the tone for their campaign, Sofapaka is now gearing up to face Bandari in their next encounter on Thursday.
