After breaking into Chelsea's U21 side as a teenager, the son of a former Super Eagles star is looking to make an impact with the Blues

Landon Emenalo, the son of former Super Eagles defender and ex-Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo, is carving his own path at Stamford Bridge with one clear goal: to break into Chelsea’s senior team.

At just 17, he’s already turning heads within the club’s youth system and making strides toward the spotlight.

Emenalo’s rapid rise through the ranks

This season has been a breakthrough campaign for the promising midfielder. After signing a scholarship with Chelsea in the summer, Emenalo didn’t waste time making an impression.

He earned his first professional contract shortly after turning 17 in January, and since then, he's become a fixture in the Under-21 squad.

His steady performances even earned him a spot on the bench during Chelsea’s UEFA Conference League quarter-final match against Legia Warsaw.

Despite the leap in competition, Emenalo has embraced the challenge, saying, “The transition has been really positive for me. I already feel I’ve developed a lot. Playing against older, stronger opponents has helped me improve quickly.

“Stepping up to Under-21s football has been a challenge, but I believe I’ve adapted well. That said, I’m always looking to improve and keep progressing — that’s the only way to reach the top.”

Eyes firmly set on Chelsea’s first team

While some youth players may be content with incremental steps, Emenalo is focused on the ultimate prize: making it into Chelsea’s first team.

Former Chelsea man Michael Emenalo is now the football director for the Saudi Pro League.

A student of the game, he takes each performance seriously and approaches his development with maturity, telling Chelsea’s official website, “I reflect on every game. I think about what I did well and where I can grow.

“That mindset is key, as it shows I’m constantly striving to get better. My goal is to play senior football for Chelsea and I’m doing everything I can to get there.”

Eligible to represent England, Nigeria, Togo, or the Netherlands, Emenalo’s continued growth could see him soon become a regular name on the Chelsea teamsheet.
