Super Falcons forward Uchenna Kanu, launched her foundation in Abia state in a bid to promote education and sports by giving out scholarships to young girls.
Saturday, December 9, 2023, was a day to remember for the people of Abia state, as Abia-born football player Uchenna Kanu, returned to the city which made her to show appreciation and give hope to the young girls to participate in sports.
The Super Falcons star is a native of Uzuakoli, in Bende L.G.A of Abia State and started her football career in the streets of Aba, training and playing with some grassroots clubs including Standard Babes Fc (now Abia Angels Fc) before luck smiled on her, as she benefitted from an education scholarship programme that took her abroad, where she combined Education with playing football.

Uchenna Kanu, has gone on to play for many professional football clubs in Europe, and currently plays as a centre forward for the Super Falcons of Nigeria and Racing Louisville Fc in the United States of America.

Uchenna Kanu launches foundation to help young girls
Having gone through the rigors of playing football from the streets, to becoming a super star, Uchenna Kanu decided that it was necessary to also extend that olive branch to upcoming female footballers in Abia state, as she officially launched the “Uchenna Kanu Foundation” in an event that was held at the Enyimba football club Stadium, Aba.

The event which attracted students from Selected secondary schools within Aba, many sports men and women including super falcons players like Desire Oparanozie and Chinaza Uchendu, had a seminar session where Uchenna Kanu, told here story of how it all started for her as a footballer.

The students also had the opportunity of interacting with Uchenna Kanu, through a question and answer segment where they asked career development questions, which were answered accordingly by the Super Falcons star.
High point of the occasion was the scouting football match, between Solo Wonders Football club and Empress giants Fc, which ended in a 2-1 victory for Empress Giants Fc, that gave the young girls the opportunity to be scouted by top football clubs in Europe, while the players scouted, will proceed for a education scholarship program abroad.

There was also trophy and medal presentation for players and officials of both team that participated, while Uchenna Kanu specifically also gave every participating female player, a pair of football boots, while both goalkeepers where rewarded with a pair of gloves too.

Empress giants football club, got a cash price of Three Hundred Thousand Naira (#300,000) as the winner of the football match, while the runner up Solo Wonders Fc, took home Two hundred Thousand (#200,000).
The event also had performances from some entertainers and other football players were also in attendance to show support to Kanu.
