Douala, who was recently suspended for alleged age cheating by the Cameroonian Football Federation, could be heading to Turkish side Antalyaspor

Wilfried Nathan Douala, the footballer embroiled in controversy over age cheating allegations and recently suspended by the Cameroonian Football Federation, appears to be on the verge of a move to Turkey.

Reports suggest that the Victoria United midfielder is set to join Antalyaspor, a club competing in the Turkish first division.

Douala, who has been at the center of age-related scrutiny and is alleged to be a 23-year-old named Alexandre Bardelli, was scouted by Antalyaspor during a talent detection tournament organized by Opopo.

In an official statement released by Victoria United, the club announced a partnership agreement with Antalyaspor for collaborative activities. This agreement may facilitate Douala's transfer to the Turkish club, and could potentially benefit his teammate, Ewane Enopa Fils.

Douala's inclusion in the Cameroonian national team for the January Cup of Nations finals, despite lacking prior international experience, raised eyebrows.

Social media discussions ensued regarding his age, especially when photos of Douala surfaced, prompting speculation about his true age.

French newspaper Le Monde conducted an investigation alleging that Douala had previously played in the Cameroon league under the name Alexandre Bardelli, and was older than his reported age.

Amidst the controversy, Victoria United initially defended Douala and another player accused of age manipulation, stating they had submitted evidence to FECAFOOT to support their innocence.

Valentin Nkwain, the president of Victoria United, addressed the situation in a press conference, seeking to clarify Douala's status.

He asserted that Douala was mistakenly identified, emphasizing that the player in question was his brother and not Douala himself.

Nkwain vowed to provide evidence to substantiate their claims and expressed his opposition to players having dual identities, citing instances of other players within his team possessing dual identities.

Nkwain's remarks shed light on the complexities surrounding the case, emphasizing the broader implications of football beyond the field and highlighting the importance of integrity in the sport.
