Wanyama announced his retirement from the team two years ago , with his last cap being a 2-1 loss to Comoros in 2020, but says his international career may yet not be over.

Former Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama has revealed the conditions that will need to be fulfilled if he is ever to kick a ball for the side again.

Wanyama announced his retirement from the team two years ago , with his last cap being a 2-1 loss to Comoros in 2020, before being mysteriously left out of the team for 2021, including in crucial 2022 World Cup qualifying games.

However, the CF Montreal midfielder has revealed he has not completely shut the door on returning to the national team, but insisted that “two or three things” with the Federation have to be pointed out for him to return in an interview with Radio 47.

“For now, I must say that if certain things are set straight, I will return to the national team, we will see one day,”  Wanyama said.

“Things have to be set straight, maybe two or three, then I will return, by the federation.”This comes just a year after Sports CS Ababu Namwamba had revealed he had talked the former Tottenham midfielder into making a return to the national team.

“I’m delighted @VictorWanyama has agreed to return fully to Harambee Stars, rescinding his earlier decision to exit the team,” Namwamba wrote on X.

“ In our mission to rebuild our football and elevate our national teams, our elite players must be at the heart of this renaissance.”

He has not appeared in any of the 8 games Harambee Stars have featured in in 2023 though, which contrasts to Ababu’s stance.

In an earlier interview with BBC Sport, Wanyama had insisted that the country needed to become “more professional” if he was to add to his 64 caps.

"I spoke to the minister and I spoke to the (new) coach. They're all asking me to go back but I said 'I need a bit of time to think about this'.

"Maybe I can come back and help the team, help the young players coming through to understand what it means to represent their country.

"I think the players deserve better treatment and more professionalism."
