The two sides are separated by just one point and have opted to beef up their attacks ahead of a tight battle for the league crown in the second half of the season.

Ugandan Premier League leaders Vipers and second-placed NEC FC have boosted their ranks in a bid to give themselves an edge in the title race in the second half of the season.

The two sides are separated by just one point, Vipers at the summit with 34 points, one more than NEC, both sides having played 15 matches.

With another round of 15 still to go, both sides believe the league will be won by the team that scores more at least going by their midseason transfer activity.

Vipers have brought in Isaac Ogwang from Police, who had scored six goals prior to his arrival, and he has been handed a two-year deal by the John ‘Ayala’ Luyinda-coached side.

He has Yunus Sentamu, Mohamed Salem, Gusto Mulongo, Kenneth Kimera and Annest Akunda to fight for a place in attack for Vipers.

Luyinda’s side have been dominant in the league but are being challenged fiercely this season by NEC who have responded by bringing in young attackers Alpha Ssali and Ibrahim Kasinde.

The two will provide competition for Paul Macureezi and James Jarieko who are the go-to men upfront for coach Hussein Mbalangu.

Ssali brings some celebrity touch besides goals as he is the son of popular singer Moses Ssali popularly known as Bebe Cool although his new coach has been quick to dispel any notion that he is there for the show.

“I have improved players before. He is still young and ready to listen. I will tell him what is right and wrong and will give him the heart of a lion,” said Mbalangu regarding Ssali, who was signed from fourth-placed Express FC, as reported by the Daily Monitor.

Of the two sides, Vipers have scored the most goals, 25, while NEC have 19, although both teams have conceded nine goals so far.
