Montreal shines with Wanyama's brilliance in MLS victory, while Messi's Miami faces disappointment with an early playoff exit.

Victor Wanyama's CF Montreal secured a decisive 4-1 victory over the Portland Timbers, sending them closer to earning a spot in the Major Soccer League (MLS) playoffs.

The Kenya international midfielder, who was named as a substitute in the match list, played a pivotal role in his team's triumph.

Sunusi Ibrahim opened the scoring for Montreal in the 28th minute, setting the stage for an electrifying night at Stade Saputo.

Mahala Opoku doubled the lead in the 35th minute, and Mathieu Choinière and Mason Toye added two more goals in the second half.

This win not only secured Montreal's playoff berth but also marked the end of their seven-game winless streak, a record the club was eager to break.

Montreal's high-energy start and a tactical shift to a 3-4-3 formation allowed them to dominate the flanks and half-spaces with their pace.

Opoku's assist to Ibrahim showcased their attacking prowess and put Montreal in the lead.

With the momentum on their side, Montreal continued their high pressing and extended their lead with Ibrahim returning the favor to Opoku, who netted his goal from the top of the penalty area.

In the second half, Montreal adjusted their strategy, opting to sit deeper and look for counter-attacking opportunities. Choinière capitalised on a moment of brilliance, catching the Portland goalkeeper off-guard with a long-range shot that found the back of the net, securing Montreal's third goal of the evening.

Despite their strong home record, they had often struggled to convert chances into goals, but this time, they showcased their scoring prowess.

Montreal added their fourth goal ten minutes later when Mason Toye capitalised on a rebound, scoring from a tight angle.

In contrast, Lionel Messi's Inter Miami faced disappointment as they were eliminated from the MLS playoffs.

After their match on Saturday, October 21, Inter Miami will not play another MLS game until late February, leaving them with ample time to regroup and strategise for the upcoming season.
