Now on 44 points and enjoying the view from the top, the Pirates will go into their home circuit, the Rujumba Sevens, as overwhelming favourites for maximum points.

Marvin Odongo’s charges are yet to lose a game and only had two scares across the two circuits in Jinja and Kitgum.

During the Stone City Sevens, Pirates only found themselves in a spot of bother once, against Rhinos in the group games but still managed to come from a 14-00 deficit to win 19-14.

After that, Pirates went on to win the circuit after beating Kobs in the final.

In Kitgum, the Pirates’ only scare came in the quarter-final, where the team required a sudden death try by skipper Isaac Massa to progress to the semis.

Having helped Pirates to the Nile Special Rugby Premier League title in his first season as head coach, Odongo will be looking to add the Sevens trophy as well as the Uganda Cup later this year.

By making light work of Heathens 24-07 and Jinja Hippos 24-00 in the semis and final, respectively, Pirates cemented their place at the top.

Kobs are second with 36 points after finishing second in Jinja and third in Kitgum.

Having lost to Pirates in the first final, Kobs had eyes on lifting the trophy in Kitgum but were dealt a blow when they lost to Jinja Hippos in the semi-final.

The Blue Army then defeated Platinum Credit Heathens in the third-place playoff to collect 17 points from the event.

Heathens are third on the log with 32 points, while defending champions Hippos improved their tally by making the final in Kitgum.

The Jinja-based side are on 31 points.

Toyota Buffaloes, on 26 points, complete the top five.
