Nigeria Super Eagles will take on the Palancas Negras of Angola in the AFCON 2023 quarterfinal.

Nigeria’s preparations for their upcoming AFCON 2023 qualifiers against Angola have been rocked by injuries to skipper Ahmed Musa and right-back Bright Osayi-Samuel.

Pulse Sports reports that the Super Eagles will take on Angola in a must-win quarterfinal clash on Friday without both players due to injuries.

Musa and Osayi-Samuel out

The 31-year-old veteran, Musa, has not played a single minute so far at the AFCON 2023, but will be a major blow to Jose Peseiro on the bench.

Musa, who was a part of the Super Eagles team that lifted the title 10 years ago in South Africa, is joined on the sidelines by another Turkey-based star, Osayi-Samuel.

The Fenerbahce man has lost his place to Nottingham Forest star, Ola Aina, with the wing-back having to make do with substitute appearances so far in Ivory Coast.

But according to reports coming out of Cote d’Ivoire, both players will watch from the stands as their teammates battle for a place in the semifinals of the AFCON.

Their absence leaves a huge void for Nigeria to fill against Angola, despite their bit-part roles so far in the tournament. The news comes as a devastating setback for manager Jose Peseiro ahead of the tricky encounter against the Black Antelopes from Angola on Friday.
