The Gunners are set to begin negotiations with the Hammers for their skipper Declan Rice after being linked to the club for several months.

Declan Rice has been Arsenal’s top priority this summer and the Gunners will stop at nothing to lure him to the Emirates.

Arsenal returned to the Champions League, seven years after having a remarkable season with Kroenke ready to stand behind Arteta by spending big in the summer transfer window.

Arteta wants to significantly improve his team and make sure they are competitive with the finest teams on the continent. One player who has the potential to change Arsenal's fortunes is Rice.

Arsenal’s number one target is Rice

According to reports in past months, Arsenal made Delan Rice their priority target ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window and Arteta is keen to bring the Englishman to the Emirates.

The 24-year-old has been superb for West Ham this season having helped them avoid relegation and secure a Premier League stay.

Mikel Arteta has been given the green light to add new additions to his team and it is believed that Arsenal are willing to give substantial increase in wages to new signings.

West Ham are currently quoting a sum of £100 million for Declan Rice but the Gunners are hoping they can negotiate a fee for England International.

Arsenal focus on other targets

The Gunners have also set their sight on other targets ahead of next season as they look to build on their performance and challenge for the title.

The Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi and Moussa Diaby are also on Arteta's list of targets for the Gunners, making Rice not their only transfer target.

Arsenal’s title challenge crumbled at the latter end of the season due to insufficient squad depth and an injury crisis. Many are of the belief that William Saliba’s back injury played a major role in losing the title and Arteta is looking to solve the issue before the new season.

The likes of Guehi, Rice and Diaby would ensure squad depth and solidity in Arsenal's back-line and enough quality regardless of injury or suspension.

The Arsenal supporters are in for a particularly thrilling summer, which is precisely what they need to recover from their heartbreak in the title fight.
