The head of state made a financial pledge last season to the country’s two biggest clubs in Simba and Young Africans, staking Tsh 5M (UGX7M) per goal scored in both the CAF CL and CC, where both sides were competing.

Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan means everything she started regarding supporting Tanzanian clubs at the CAF Interclub competitions.

The head of state made a financial pledge last season to the country’s two biggest clubs in Simba and Young Africans, staking Tsh 5M (UGX7M) per goal scored in both the CAF CL and CC, where both sides were competing.

With the new CAF CL/CC campaign underway, the Tanzanian chief Government Spokesman, Gerson Msigwa, confirmed that the President had upped the stakes from the quarterfinals.

“When a team reaches the Quarterfinals, each goal scored will be bought at Tzsh 5m (UGX7m), as for the semis, each goal will be bought at Tzsh 10m (UGX14m) while for the finals, Tzsh 20m (UGX29m) will be paid per goal scored,” said Msigwa.

Khalid Aucho and Gift Fred’s Young Africans made over Ugx 146m when they reached their maiden CAF Confederation Cup final, eventually losing out on the away goals rule to Algeria’s USM Alger.

Simba, on the other hand, managed the quarterfinals in the CAF Champions League, going on to lose to eventual runners-up Wydad Casablanca and, in the process, raked in up to TZsh 50m (Ugx 73m).

Young Africans and Simba are in the CAF Champions League, with ‘Tiimu ya Wanainchi’ having eliminated Djibouti ASAS in the first preliminary round to meet Sudan’s Al Merrikh in the second preliminary round.

For the CAF Confederation Cup, Azam FC was eliminated by Ethiopia’s Bahir Dar Kenema, while Singida Fountain Gate eliminated JKU SC to advance to the second preliminary round.
