Pedri finally conquered a stumbling block in his 2022/23 season for Barcelona after providing an assist against Espanyol
Barcelona midfielder Pedri Gonzales finally put a stain on his 2022/23 campaign to bed thanks to his assist for Alejandro Balde’s goal against Espanyol.
Pedri’s LaLiga assist struggles
Pedri has been undoubtedly one of the Blaugrana’s most important and influential players this season, with the team suffering a glaring difference in fluidity between games where he was involved and games he missed.
Despite his clear value to the team and incredible midfield mastery, Pedri had been unable to register an assist in any competition for Barcelona this season.
Pedri finally registers first assist of the 2022/23 assist
Pedri’s lack of assists was not for want of effort as the midfielder had created 38 chances for his teammates before finally registering an assist with his 39th chance created in LaLiga.
The Spain international had accumulated more expected assists (4.6xA) than in any of his other LaLiga seasons since joining Barcelona in 2020, while also creating 11 big chances this campaign.
Pedri had been the LaLiga player with the most chances created who was yet to register an assist in the competition before being rescued by Balde’s superb goal against Espanyol.
Despite not registering an assist until the 34th game week, Pedri has contributed to a reasonable amount of goals in the league for a midfielder, scoring six goals in 22 starts.
The midfielder will be hoping to put his assists cold streak behind him believing the bad luck is behind him and trusting his teammates to do better on the end of chances that he creates.
