Vipers sits third in group C, three points behind second placed Horoya AC, after collecting only one point from their opening two games.

Vipers SC boss Beto Bianchi persists that he remains positive his side can make a push to progress for the CAF Champions League knockout stage.

Vipers sits third in group C, three points behind second placed Horoya AC, after collecting only one point from their opening two games.

On Saturday, the Venoms played out a goalless draw against Horoya at the St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende to add to a humbling 5-0 defeat to Raja Casablanca in their first group game.

When asked about his team’s chances of progressing to the next stage of the competition, Bianchi said: “There are still 12 points to play for, so we still have a chance.”

“We have to stay positive and fight for whatever is available to us between now and the end of the group stages.”

“We have to be true to ourselves as well. The other teams have more experience at this level than us, but I believe we can go up against them.

“For example, today against Horoya, we applied ourselves pretty well, and managed to go toe to toe with them throughout the game, even after we got that red card, we were never in an awkward situation.”

“So, we have to stay positive and we are going to do our best to push for the best results,” he added.

Vipers play Tanzania’s Simba SC in back to back fixtures. The Venoms host the first game at the St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende on March 25, and then travel to Simba for the second game on March 7.

The will then travel to Guinea capital Conakry for their reverse fixture against Horoya before hosting Raja Casablanca in the final group game.

The five-time Uganda Premier League winners are only the second club to reach the group stages of any continental club competitions.

KCCA broke the duct with back to back qualifications for the CAF Champions League and Confederations Cup back in 2017 and 2018 respectively.

Vipers joined the exclusive class this season, and are looking at re-writing history if they can beat the odds and reach the knockout stage of the CAF Champions League.
