Seven managers have left the head coach roles at different clubs. Unless otherwise, BUL’s interim head coach Simeon Masaba could be the eighth, with results not coming through since he replaced Isabirye.

Morley Byekwaso, who resigned as KCCA FC head coach on Sunday, is the latest manager to leave his managerial role in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League this season.

But several others have also exited elsewhere, and this reporter takes us through who has left which club, when and why.

Morley Byekwaso - KCCA FC

Byekwaso has recently been under immense pressure, with the Kasasiro Boys performing poorly in the league, surrendering the top spot to rivals SC Villa.

A 1-0 defeat to Soltilo Bright Stars FC in the quarterfinals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup was the final nail in his coffin.

He had lost all the trust of the top administrators, and it is also believed that the dressing room was also divided as he highlighted player power as a reason for his untimely resignation.

The former KCCA FC player succeeded long-term serving manager Mike Mutebi who was sacked in March 2021 but has failed to guide the Lugogo-based side to any domestic silverware.

Roberto Oliveira - Vipers SC

Oliveira quit the Uganda Premier League champions, Vipers, during the first quarter of the 2022/23 season in December 2022.

He left for a juicy opportunity at Tanzanian Premier League giants Simba SC - the Brazilian departed after helping the Venoms to reach the group stages of the CAF Champions League for the first time in their history.

Oliveira also left as a Uganda Cup and Uganda Premier League winner, trophies won in 2021 and 2022, respectively.

Beto Bianchi - Vipers SC

The Brazilian Spanish who replaced Oliviera was sacked barely two months into the job at Kitende in March 2023 following the club's poor run of results in all competitions.

Alex Isabirye - BUL FC

Unfortunately, the oil manufacturers could not hold on to their undoubtedly best manager in their history when a brighter opportunity came his way.

Isabirye, who guided BUL to a Uganda Cup triumph, their first trophy in their 15 years of existence and a fourth-position finish in the 2021/22 season, left the club to join Vipers.

He succeeded Beto in March 2023, and he has had a fair start to life the Kitende with the Venoms into the semifinals of the Uganda Cup.

Peter Onen - Blacks Power FC

Onen joined the newly promoted side Blacks Power at the start of the 2022/23 campaign but left the manager role after two matches in October 2022.

He noted the lack of professionalism by the club officials interfering with his job as the reason for his departure.

Onen was replaced by Hussein Mbalangu, who continues to struggle with the team to ensure that they avoid immediate relegation.

Paul Kiwanuka - Busoga United FC

Kiwanuka left his head coach position at Busoga United in October after misunderstandings with the club fans.

Vincent Lukyamuzi, Kiwanuka’s assistant, was immediately promoted, and he is the club’s current head coach.

Haruna Mawa - Onduparaka FC

Mawa resigned at the start of the 2022/23 campaign at Onduparaka, and Hamza Kalanzi took over on an interim basis until Steven Bogere was appointed full manager in December 2022. they are

Under the stewardship of Bogere, the Caterpillars continue to struggle at the bottom of the 15-team SUPL log and could be destined for relegation.

Seven managers have left the head coach roles at different clubs. Unless otherwise, BUL’s interim head coach Simeon Masaba could be the eighth, with results not coming through since he replaced Isabirye.

Vipers and Onduparaka have been under three managers so far, the most of any other team in the division.
