Byekwaso has picked lessons from Mutebi’s experience and several Uganda Premier League teams that have succumbed to lower-tier sides this season.

KCCA and Kataka served a cracker the last time they met in Mbale for the Stanbic Uganda Cup. The Kampala side emerged victors in a seven-goal thriller then under the tutelage of Mike Mutebi.

Brian Majwega grabbed an early lead for the Kasasiro Boys but Junior Amanya and Nassur Nandala ensured the hosts then using the Nabini Playgrounds led into the break.

Majwega levelled matters in the 70th minute but the hosts who had proven stubborn threatened to take the game to penalties. However, the star-studded team pushed and took the lead with only three minutes left through Paul Mucureezi. An own goal and another by Derrick Nsibambi breathed a sigh of relief for Mutebi and his troops as they marched to the quarterfinals.

The teams face again on Sunday at Mbale City Stadium with a different setup for KCCA led by Morley Byekwaso.

They meet a Kataka side that has kept more than 60 percent of their squad that played that match in April 2017.

Byekwaso has picked lessons from Mutebi’s experience and several Uganda Premier League teams that have succumbed to lower-tier sides this season.

“We’re going to face a hard team that plays a very physical game,” he noted.

“We’ve all witnessed what has happened to fellow premier league teams to lower sides. We played them four seasons ago and they gave us a very hard time. The. We know how good they’re when playing in Mbale. We need to work very hard to progress to the round of 16,” Byekwaso who took over from Mutebi added.

Topflight teams like Arua Hill, Busoga United, SC Villa and Gaddafi are already out of the competition.

Kataka had lost to Gorilla Highlands in the round of 64 but they successfully petitioned FUFA after the latter fielded an ineligible player.

KCCA reached this stage after seeing off Kampala Junior Team 3-0 in the round of 64.
