Barcelona star midfielder Frenkie de Jong set to join Pedri on the sidelines due to injury.

Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong is set for a period on the sidelines due to injury after suffering a knock in the Blaugrana’s 3-2 victory over Celta Vigo.

Frenkie is one of the most important players in Xavi Hernandez’s side, with the club’s president tagging him ‘not for sale’ when Manchester United came knocking, despite their financial strait. They will now have to navigate their next set of matches without the Dutch midfielder, as he is reported to be injured.

Frenkie de Jong suffers injury

Barcelona snatched a win from the jaws of defeat, coming back from two goals down in the last ten minutes of the game; however, the remarkable victory was tainted by an injury scare for the former Ajax man.

The 25-year-old requested to be substituted after he felt discomfort and was taken off in the 36th minute for Gavi. The fear has seemingly materialised, as reports have surfaced after the match claim tests have been conducted, and Frenkie has sustained an ankle injury and is set to be unavailable for the next five to seven weeks.

Matches De Jong is set to miss

Barcelona have slowly gathered momentum and are currently flying, winning their last six games in all competitions, and the marauding midfielder is a key cog in their recent successes.

Xavi would have to name a match-day squad that excludes him until at least November. In that period, they will play Mallorca and Sevilla in the league; Porto and Shakhtar in the Champions League; Granada, Athletic Club, and El Clasico against Real Madrid, which is scheduled for October 28.
