Erick ‘Marcelo’ Ouma has taken little time to endear himself to supporters of his new Polish side as they have showered him with praise following his impressive league debut.

Harambee Stars defender Erick ‘Marcelo’ Ouma has been praised for showing good quality on his first league match for Polish champions Rakow Czestochowa.

Ouma started at left-back and put in a good shift for Rakow Czestochowa but it was not enough to prevent them from suffering a 2-1 defeat away to Warta Poznan.

However, his performance was one to remember as he showed good defensive abilities and great pace when going forward to the delight of the club’s supporters who feel he will lift their team to greater heights.

“He's great. You can see that he is still new and doesn't understand who is where on the pitch, but in fact he should have at least had an assist after [Bartosz] Nowak's header. The brightest point of the match,” a delighted fan commented on social media.

“He's fast, it's obvious he hasn't had much training with his team-mates yet,” said another supporter.

“Salute to him, a very talented player in his position,” was the observation of another Rakow Czestochowa supporter, before adding: “Definitely the best on the pitch.”

“He was the best on the turf, surprisingly, the rest are still on vacation in Turkey,” a fan said.

“Very good debut I hope the coach doesn't ruin it like he did with everyone else.”

Some fans are excited by Ouma’s pace which they feel will be an extra weapon in their team’s attack.

“Good performance in yesterday's [Sunfay] match. When he accelerated, he passed as he wanted,” said a fan, while another one observed: “For a Kenyan, his legs are strong. You can see that he has been playing in Europe for a long time.”

“The best in the team, he still doesn't understand that the current Rakow plays slowly and backwards. And he was flying like crazy on the wing,” was another sentiment.

It is a good early sign for Ouma who will hope to endear himself to the club supporters even more when Rakow Czestochowa host Piast Gliwice on Saturday in what will be the Kenyan international’s first league match at home.

Ouma was sold to the Polish side for over Ksh150 million by Swedish side AIK last month after spending over three years at the club.

The defender signed a two-year deal, with an option for as many more years, at Rakow Czestochowa.
