From Victor to the goalkeeper — Iwobi explains why Super Eagles are not afraid of any team at AFCON

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwob has hailed the team's performance against Ivory Coast and sounded out a warning to the rest of Africa.

Following Nigeria's victory over Ivory Coast in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations on Thursday, Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi has issued a warning to their upcoming opponents.

Iwobi emphasized that the team is not afraid of any competitor currently participating in the ongoing AFCON.

The crucial victory, secured by William Troost-Ekong's penalty, marked a significant moment for Jose Peseiro's men, who are aiming to win their first AFCON trophy since 2013.

Iwobi declares Super Eagles not afraid of anyone

Speaking to reporters in the mixed zone after the game, Iwobi said: “The formation was different.

 “We defended as a team, from Victor [Osimhen] to the goalkeeper, everyone defended well so I feel like that formation change helped us. 

“We have to concentrate on the next game, we take it game by game but we have the belief that we can do so, we have to wait and see.

 “We are afraid of no one but we treat every team with respect.”

Nigeria take on Guinea-Bissau on Monday, looking to wrap up automatic qualification for the knockout phase.
