Gor Mahia have an amazing opportunity to gain advantage in the title race against Nairobi City Stars following Tusker's and Kenya Police's slips.

Gor Mahia striker Benson Omala and co-captain Geoffrey Ochieng have expressed optimism about their title run-in clash against Nairobi City Stars at the Dandora Stadium on Thursday.

The FKF Premier League champions are looking to take advantage of Tusker's and Kenya Police's recent slips when they take on the City boys.

The Gor Mahia players are drawing inspiration from their victory over Shabana.

It was a fiercely contested clash at Gusii Stadium that saw K'Ogalo toil for a 1-0 victory to keep pace with the league leaders.

Speaking ahead of the clash, striker Benson Omala expressed optimism about the team's preparation ahead of their clash with City Stars.

"So far the preparations have been going well. The players have morale from last time's win because it was not an easy win—we had to work hard for it. Everyone gave their 100%, and we got the win," said Omala via Gor Mahia media.

Omala, who most recently joined Gor Mahia’s title charge, has been a key addition to the squad following his tumultuous stint with Lebanese side Al Safa.

The striker, who is eyeing a third consecutive title with K'Ogalo, helped the club to their record 21st title under former coach Jonathan McKinstry last season.

At the same time, the club's co-captain Geoffrey Ochieng has expressed similar sentiments ahead of their all-important clash.

"So far we thank God for everything that happened. From the Shabana game, we got three points although we had so many issues. To our fans, we say sorry and we hope everyone is recovering well. We know God will do something—at least for them to have another day, to see another day at least.God is always the best in everything," said the Gor Mahia defender, noting the casualties witnessed from the chaos that occurred when K'Ogalo visited Gusii Stadium.

"To our preparation for the upcoming match, everyone is motivated in the team. I think we don't have many injuries, but everyone is prepared, and we are sure for this match we are going to do our best," he added.

The Title Race

Gor Mahia, currently in third with 53 points, have a chance to leapfrog Tusker on the log with 55 points.

A win against City Stars will take them within two points of Kenya Police, who place at the summit with 58 points.

Most notably, after the City Stars clash, Gor Mahia will still have a game in hand on both title challengers stemming from their postponed Mashemeji Derby against AFC Leopards.

The fixture's fate remains uncertain following its postponement; it was originally scheduled last Sunday at the Kasarani Stadium.
