Gor Mahia are targeting a top-scoring forward as a potential replacement for Benson Omala amid transfer speculation for the June window.

Gor Mahia are being linked with a strategic move to bolster their attacking options by eyeing Ugandan international Muhammad Shaban amid growing speculations surrounding the future of star striker Benson Omala.

The FKF Premier League giants are reportedly considering Shaban as a viable replacement should Omala depart in the upcoming transfer window in June.

Omala, who has been a key figure for Gor Mahia, was on the verge of joining Algerian top-flight club JS Saoura on loan, but the deal fell through in the final moments due to stringent conditions imposed by the K'Ogalo administration.

Despite the collapsed move, the interest in Omala from overseas clubs is expected to reignite, potentially leaving a vacancy in Gor Mahia's forward line.

Enter Muhammad Shaban, the 26-year-old Ugandan forward, who has been lighting up the Uganda Premier League with his goal-scoring prowess.

Currently, Shaban is the joint-league top scorer, having found the back of the net 11 times, alongside Nelson Senkatuka of Soltilo Bright Stars FC.

His remarkable season also includes two goals in the Stanbic Uganda Cup, contributing to an impressive tally of 16 goals in 36 appearances since his return to Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club (KCCA FC).

Shaban's performances have not only captivated fans but also caught the attention of clubs beyond Uganda's borders.

According to a report from sister publication Pulse Sports Uganda, Tanzanian giants Young Africans SC have previously expressed interest in acquiring the forward.

However, it is Gor Mahia, under the guidance of former Uganda Cranes coach Johnathan McKinstry, that seems most keen on securing Shaban's signature.

McKinstry's admiration for the Ugandan international could play a pivotal role in the potential transfer, as he looks to reinforce Gor Mahia's offensive capabilities.

The failed transfer of Omala to JS Saoura has shed light on the financial negotiations behind player movements, with Gor Mahia initially demanding a transfer fee of approximately $40,000, before adjusting their expectations to around $30,000.
