The K'Ogalo striker is close to equaling the league's record as the Kenya Police forward gives chase

The FKF Premier League golden boot race is beginning to have some semblance of competition having looked like it was a one man show for Gor Mahia's Benson Omala.

Omala's closest challenger Elvis Rupia of Kenya Police has entered the 20-goal mark, making for an intense race with six games remaining.

John Macharia of Nzoia sugar continues to get closer the 20-goal mark, having now hit 15, as Nzoia Sugar maintain pressure on Gor and Tusker FC for the title.

Umaru Kasumba of Ulinzi Stars and Kennedy Owino of KCB are joint fourth in the goalscoring charts on nine goals each.

Pulse Sports brings you a recap of the top scorers charts so far and what is at stake, heading into the final rounds of the season

Benson Omala, Gor Mahia - 25 goals

Omala leads the goalscoring charts on 25 goals, just one short of equaling Maurice 'Sony' Ochieng's record of 26 goals hit in the 1976 season. Omala hit a brace during their 2-1 win over FC Talanta last Sunday, but failed to find the net in their 2-1 win over Mathare United on Wednesday.

However, he will get the chance to make history when Gor face a resurgent Wazito at the Muhoroni grounds on Sunday.

Elvis Rupia, Kenya Police -21 goals

Rupia was on song as Police drubbed Bidco United 2-0, with the striker bagging a brace to close in on Omala. Rupia will be hoping to add to his tally on Saturday when his side face FC Talanta at the Nyayo National Stadium.

John Macharia, Nzoia Sugar - 15 goals

Macharia’s form for Nzoia Sugar this season has generally epitomised their fairytale run as Salim Babu’s men have mounted an unexpected title challenge.

He was not on the scoring charts in their last fixture against Talanta but saw his side accrue three points to keep the pressure on Gor and Tusker.
