The Kenyan international will have to contend with more competition after the permanent signing of a new forward by his Scottish club.

Kenyan striker Jonah Ayunga will have competition for a place in attack at St Mirren next season after the club signed Irish forward Roland Idowu on a permanent deal.

Ayunga, who signed a new one-year extension in April, has had a mixed season, managing four goals and as many assists in 28 matches, but was handed fresh terms by the club after securing a top six finish.

The Harambee Stars forward will now have to contend with increased competition following the club’s decision to retain Idowu, who had been on loan at St Mirren from English side Shrewsbury Town.

The 23-year-old made 36 appearances for the Buddies and scored four goals, including the winner against Ross County, and also provided three assists, securing St Mirren’s third consecutive top six finish.

Should Jonah Ayunga Be Worried?

"Roland is a very talented player and offers us something different. He can play in numerous positions and gives us a creative outlet that we have maybe missed at times,” said St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson.

"It took him a little bit of time to adjust to the levels here, but you could see towards the end of the season that he was reaching those levels and had become an important player for us.”

The good news for Ayunga, however, is that Idowu has operated mostly as an attacking midfielder at St Mirren which could be of great help to the Kenyan as he could benefit from his assists.

The Irish forward can also play in the front three which could allow him to play alongside Ayunga if Robison opts to utilise both of them.
