Mubiru's immediate task will be to lead Express past historical nemesis, SC Villa, in the Uganda Premier League on Sunday at the Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.

Seven-time Uganda Premier League champions Express FC have named legendary forward Hassan Mubiru as their interim head coach.

This follows the club's sacking of head coach James Odoch, who was shown the exit door on Tuesday following their one-all draw with BUL FC.

"In the interim, Hassan Mubiru, who is an integral part of the technical team at the club, will take over," Express confirmed in a Wednesday statement.

Mubiru's immediate task will be to lead Express past historical nemesis, SC Villa, in the Uganda Premier League on Sunday at the Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.

Ironically, it's with Villa that Mubiru received his most considerable plaudits as a player, earning himself a legendary status after guiding them to four league titles between 1998 and 2001.

Between that spell with the Jogoo, he also won two Uganda Cups before joining his beloved boyhood club, Express, in 2001.

Meanwhile, Mubiru's predecessor, Odoch, was sacked after the club's recent run of awful results, which has seen them fail to pick a victory from each of their past five games.

During that time, 'Mukwano Gwabanji' have suffered two defeats and picked three stalemates.

Currently, the club sits seventh on the 16-team table with 13 points in their opening nine games of the season.

Odoch had been Express's head coach for the past one and a half seasons, having initially been made interim midway through the 2021/22 campaign.
