Nigeria's U-20 girls go head-to-head with Ghana in the African Games final before the senior male teams lock horns on Friday

The Jollof derby between Nigeria and Ghana has taken a new shape as two derbies will be happening within two days.

The first battle will be on Thursday when Nigeria's U-20 girls (The Falconets) go head-to-head with Ghana in the African Games final before the senior male teams lock horns on Friday.

Falconet and Black Princess battle for African Gold medal

Nigeria's U20 women's team, the Falconet, booked a date against the Black Princess of Ghana in the final of the ongoing 13th African Games in Ghana.

Defending champions Nigeria defeated Uganda’s U20 team to book a place in the final of the African Games against hosts Ghana on Thursday night.

Coach Chris Musa Danjuma confirmed that his side is focused on retaining the gold medal and getting revenge their loss to Ghana at the WAFU B final.

He said, “We should have put away some of the chances we created in the first half, but we are happy to get two second-half goals and reach the final. It is an opportunity to retain our gold medal from the last edition in Morocco and we will do everything to win and make Nigerians happy."

“In as much as we are not thinking about revenge, we know that we have unfinished business with Ghana. Our primary objective is to retain our gold medal in the African Games, and by doing that, we would have sorted out the unfinished business,” Musa Danjuma added.

Super Eagles to renew rivalry with Black Stars

Former assistant coach Finidi George will be leading Nigeria to face their West African rivals in the internatonal friendly.

The former Ajax and Real Betis winger has been handed the reins on a temporary basis following the departure of Jose Peseiro after the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Speaking publicly for the first time since his appointment, Finidi seemed to be embracing the challenge and "responsibility" that comes with leading his country.

"Yeah, definitely, as a coach there is a responsibility but that is what we do. You have to be calm and do your job," the 52-year-old told Super Eagles media in Morocco.
