Kankonde was handed an eight-match suspension last season following an altercation that ended with him punching centre referee Mashood Ssali at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

KCCA FC striker Tshishungu Kankonde is one match away from returning to club football.

Having served seven of his eight-match suspension, the Congolese forward is set to return to action on Thursday next week.

Kankonde was handed an eight-match suspension last season following an altercation that ended with him punching centre referee Mashood Ssali at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

He missed matches against Express FC, BUL FC, Busoga FC and Soltilo Bright Stars to end last season and has already missed clashes with BUL, Maroons and Express FC this campaign.

With KCCA FC already struggling to get going in the new season, Kankonde will be expected to return and add goals to the team.

The team’s visit to Masindi to face Kitara FC will be the last match the Congolese misses.

The striker will be available for selection after the Kitara match, with a home tie against NEC FC providing the perfect platform for a return.

In Kankonde’s absence, the Kasasiro Boys have struggled for form and are already nine points off the pace in the title race.

The striker had a fallout with head coach Sergio Traguil after reportedly refusing to play in the FUFA Super 8 Tournament third-place playoff with SC Villa.

He was then reported to have returned to Congo with plans of forcing a move away from Lugogo.

Should he return straight to the team after his suspension, the gangly forward will compete for a starting place with on-form Muhammad Shaban and youngster Abubakar Mayanja.

Kankonde scored four league goals and two in the Stanbic Uganda Cup last season.
