It’s now remaining 180 minutes of football for fans to know the ultimate champion of the 2022/23 StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

Vipers sit top of the table, but not comfortably, with a superior goal advantage of +22; KCCA follows with +16 and SC Villa is in third with +7.

All three are tied on 49 points after 26 rounds of action.

Tricky trips

Alex Isabirye and his captain Milton Karisa must ensure the business is done in Njeru when they face their former paymasters, BUL.

Karisa left BUL in July 2016 as captain while Isabirye abandoned the edible-oil makers early this year. The Eastern Giant has not tasted a victory in the league since his departure as the soft-spoken coach seeks to extend their bad run to 13 games.

BUL has managed to beat the Venoms only thrice in their 24 meetings in all competitions but the defending champions must be wary of a potential banana skin on the road to a team that has shared spoils with four of their last five opponents.

Head-to-head

Vipers: Won 15; Drawn 6; lost 3

Vipers away to BUL: Played 10; Won 5; Drawn 4; lost 1

Mayanja returns

Jackson ‘Mia Mia’ Mayanja is not happy with Pulse Sports. A recent opinion questioning his tactical abilities as a coach has left the former phenomenal attacker furious.

But the coach has Busoga United and Bright Stars to shape a different opinion, especially when he crosses the great River Nile on Tuesday to play a Busoga United fighting relegation.

Statistics may boost Mayanja’s confidence on the day going, but KCCA has only failed to beat the Jinja side on two occasions out of 12.

The Kasasiros will not only go for a win but fight to improve their goal difference against a side that has conceded twice in five games.

Villa to bury Blacks

At Wankulukuku, Sports Club Villa find themselves in a very familiar situation. 20 years ago, the side went into the season's final game in need of goals to upstage Express.

The two sides were tied on points but the Red Eagles were ahead on goals. Villa went on to shock the fraternity with the scandal of the season to thump Akol from Lira 22-1.

Akol, managed by Patrick Ogwel, was thus relegated after failing to get the minimum number of points for survival.

Today, Villa need goals but that might be an uphill task this time round! They trail Vipers with 15 less as they hold the final nail to seal Blacks Power’s fate.

A win will keep the Jogoos hoping and send the Lira side back to where they came from.
