Kenya will host CHAN 2024 in a bid to test their preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

Kenya has announced the Confederation of African Football has awarded the country the rights to host the 2024 Africa Nations Championship.

The developments were revealed on Monday during a cabinet meeting chaired by President William Ruto at the State Lodge in Kisumu.

The cabinet first welcomed the recent decision by the CAF executive to award the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations to Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

“THE NATION'S top policy organ welcomed Kenya being awarded co- hosting rights for the continent's top sporting event, the African Cup of Nations (AFCON),” a press release from State House Kenya reads.

International tournaments

The cabinet also revealed that the country was set to host a number of international tournaments besides the CHAN 2024.

“IN ADDITION to AFCON 2027, Kenya has also been selected to host the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in September, 2024; the CECAFA Under-18 Championship in November, 2023; and the AFCON Under-15 (Pan- African Schools Football) CECAFA Region Championship in December, 2023,” the message added.

The Kenyan minister’s approved various construction and renovation projects of facilities for hosting the Africa Cup of Nations 2027.

They include building a Talanta Sports Complex in Nairobi and renovations of Nyayo National Stadium, Moi International Sports Centre - Kasarani, and Kipchoge Keino Stadium.

The three stadiums were proposed to host the Africa Cup of Nations 2027.
