However, the World Cup winner could be leaving the national team and focus more on his MLS team according to reports.

Messi ask for a year off

The seven times Ballon d’Or winner has allegedly asked for some time away from national team football.

Messi is believed to have told Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni that he would like a year off from his team's obligations while he and his family adjust to their new surroundings, according to the Mirror.

The Argentine recently won the 2022 FIFA World Cup with his country and was given the best player of the tournament.

The news from his star player reportedly "struck Scaloni hard," and such an agreement would require the blessing of the Argentine football association.

Messi eyes 2026 World Cup

Despite reports claiming that Messi wants a year break for the National team, he is still planning to participate in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

According to ESPN, the Argentine made it clear after winning the 2022 World Cup in Brazil that he will not rule out playing in the next World Cup.

The 36-year-old captained Argentina to victory in the World Cup final against France in Qatar on penalties on Saturday.

Argentina won the World Cup for the first time since 1986 thanks to Messi's seven goals and three assists in just seven games.

It is still doubted if he will take part in the Copa America, which will also take place in America, the next year.
