FOOTBALL Mieno urges Tusker teammates to avoid complacency in title run in

Tusker are just 360 minutes away from potentially 'completing Kenyan football' this season.

Tusker FC captain Humphrey Mieno has urged his teammates to stay focused ahead of a tough run of three league fixtures and a cup final if they are to stand a chance of winning a first double since 2016.

The Brewers drew 0-0 with Gor Mahia, keeping them on top of the table on 64 points, but they still have to face tough tests ahead including Wazito away at the dreaded Muhoroni Stadium and the FKF Cup final against a resilient Kakamega Homeboyz.

“We can only take it a game at a time because you cannot say you have won a match until you play,” he said, “Muhoroni are fighting their own battle to survive relegation and we are fighting for the title,” he added.

“All our three remaining matches are tricky but two of the three games are against sides with nothing to play for anymore. One of them (Vihiga Bullets) have already been relegated and Posta Rangers are comfortably in mid-table. Wazito however, are fighting to stay up. We have to be focused and try to get all three points.”

“Players can get complacent because we drew against Gor Mahia but we have to focus on what is at stake in order to get maximum points."

Mieno was part of the side that won the double under Ugandan tactician Paul Nkata in 2016 but says a game cannot be decided until it is played.

“It will be great if we can win all the two trophies but we cannot say we have won until we play. We have to play to win and then from there, we will see.

“Jackson Macharia was also part of that team (that won the double in 2016). We have been in such a situation before so we know how to deal with it, including the manager as well who has won a lot, so hopefully it will help us in the remaining games.”

Tusker will play Wazito at the Muhoroni Stadium on Saturday.
