The aftermath of the decision by FIFA to allocate the 2030 World Cup hosting rights jointly to Morocco, Spain, and Portugal has seen tensions start to simmer over who will host the final?

Two days after the decision, both Morocco and Spain – who will be core hosts of the tournament - are staking claims for the honour of hosting the World Cup final.

Fouzi Lekjaa, the head of Morocco's football federation, ardently believes that the culmination of the global event should be in the historic city of Casablanca.

Only South Africa’s Johannsberg has hosted a World Cup final, and Morocco are confident that they should be given the opportunity to host only the second final on the continent.

Lekjaa emphasized during an interview on Radio Mars: “[I want] to see the country's efforts crowned -- God willing -- with celebrations in Casablanca stadium at a historic final.”

Spain and Morocco hold and intricate history, with historical ties punctuated by territorial and migration disagreements.

However, relations showed signs of improvement recently, especially with Spain's evolving stance on the contentious Western Sahara territory.

Spain's Sports Minister Miquel Iceta on Thursday said that the three federations have a history of cooperation and there exists an "advanced agreement on how to allocate the matches."

To set the stage for the World Cup's centenary celebration, FIFA revealed a unique twist: the opening three matches would be played in South America.

With Uruguay (the host of the inaugural 1930 World Cup), Argentina (the runners-up, and 2022 World champions), and Paraguay being handed the responsibility.

The 2030 World Cup promises to be a global gala, stretching across three continents.

It's noteworthy that all six hosting nations, including Morocco, Spain, Portugal, Uruguay, Paraguay, and Argentina, will secure automatic qualification for the tournament.

However, Argentina have expressed an eagerness to host more games beyond the initially allocated opening match.

To iron out the World Cup scheduling concerns, a pivotal meeting has been slated for October 18 in Rabat.

During this gathering, representatives from Morocco, Spain, and Portugal will deliberate over match allocations, considering six cities in Morocco have already been marked as match venues.
