Ojera was named the Rayon Sports player for March following his exploits which saw him score three goals and provide an assist in five games across all competitions.

Ugandan international Joackim Ojera has gotten off to a flying start with his side, Rayon Sports FC, in the Rwanda Premier League.

Ojera was named the Rayon Sports player for March following his exploits which saw him score three goals and provide an assist in five games across all competitions.

"Winning the award is a huge motivating factor, and it feels good to be recognized after working hard, so I am humbled," Ojera told Pulse Sport from his Rwandan base.

Ojera found himself on the sidelines of URA FC after he and Shafik Kagimu (currently at Gor Mahia) refused to sign a club contract that stipulated that player salaries would be deducted due to the team's poor performance.

Both players were then sent out on forced leave pending an apology; when the Rayon Sports opportunity came knocking, Ojera wanted to give himself a new challenge.

"Leaving URA FC to come to Rwanda wasn't surely a bad decision because I needed a new challenge after spending four seasons in Uganda. I am taking the challenge head-on and enjoying it," Ojera noted.

'Gikundiro' return to action on Friday, 31st March, with a home game against Police FC.

The Rwanda Premier League race is currently a tight one with third-placed Rayon Sport on 46 points, one behind second-placed Kiyovu SC and three behind table leaders APR FC who have 49 points.
