Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro has picked Victor Osimhen as his first-choice striker as he speaks about Nigeria’s squad depth.

Victor Osimhen was one of the best strikers in the world last season and has been hailed by his head coach Peseiro ahead of their friendly against Saudi Arabia.

Nigeria are already making plans ahead of the upcoming AFCON competition with Osimhen set to lead the Super Eagles attack.

Peseiro spoke about how good the Napoli striker is and has made it known that Osimhen is his first-choice striker.

Peseiro on Osimhen and AFCON

Osimhen has joined the team for the upcoming international friendly games, including other players as they start their preparations for AFCON.

The squad includes Kelechi Iheanacho of Leicester City and Taiwo Awoniyi of Nottingham Forest. Samuel Chukwueza of Milan and Ademola Lookman of Atalanta are Serie A players.

Bayer Leverkusen, who currently top the Bundesliga, has Victor Boniface as their top scorer, but it is obvious who the star is.

Peseiro spoke about the squad depth he has and picked Osimhen as his first-choice striker in a recent interview.

Speaking about Nigeria’s depth compared to other African countries, as reported by Sky Sports, Peseiro laughs, "It is not easy for me to choose the strikers or the wingers.

"When Osimhen goes to Nigeria, everybody wants to touch him or speak with him or want a picture with him.

"And not just in Nigeria. Everywhere. In qualification for AFCON, he scored 10 goals - twice as many as anyone else for any other country.

"The only reason he did not score more was because he allowed his team-mates to take two penalties.

“My advice would be to take them! Other players would not allow that but if someone asks him to let them take a penalty, he allows it. He is a good guy.

"He is a strong guy, a smart guy and an amazing player, defensively and offensively. He can do everything.

“He pressures the centre-backs, he pressures the line by running in behind. He can attack the ball in the air and on the ground. He is motivated, quick and strong."

Meanwhile, Nigeria have been paired with Cote D’Ivoire the host country, Equatorial Guinea and Guinea Bissau in Group A for the AFCON competition in January.
