Piers Morgan has berated Mikel Arteta for his seemingly "inexplicable" insistence on playing Kai Havertz despite offering little in attack.

Controversial British journalist Piers Morgan has slammed Mikel Arteta for his persistent use of Kai Havertz despite seemingly offering little to Arsenal’s attack.

Morgan also had a go at the controversial VAR decision to award Newcastle what proved to be the winning goal in the second half of the match which Arsenal lost 1-0, bringing an end to the 11-match unbeaten run.

The vocal Arsenal fan took to X, formerly Twitter, to vent with a series of numerous tweets ranging about the game.

Anthony Gordon scored Newcastle's winning goal in the 64th minute, with his effort subject to a near four minute VAR check.

The VAR officials were first looked whether the ball went out as Willock attempted to keep the ball in ball.

A check was then conducted to decide whether Joelinton committed a foul on Gabriel as it appeared the Brazilian pushed his fellow countryman in the back.

After it was deemed that was not a foul, VAR tried to look at whether there was an offside as Gordon looked ahead of Joelinton.

However, it was confirmed that there was no conclusive angle that Joelinton made contact with the ball which means they didn't know whether Gordon was offside.

Morgan voiced his displeasure at VAR and also turned his attention to Arteta and Kai Havertz.

“VAR was MoM for Newcastle but we deserved to lose. Arsenal were dreadful,” Morgan retorted.

“Only Rice, again, deserves any praise. So long as we have no proper striker, and Arteta persists in this ridiculous Havertz farce, we won’t win the League.

“Arteta’s absolutely losing his s***, and he’s right about VAR being a disgrace and embarrassment.. BUT we were still cr*p, and didn’t deserve to win. And HIS inexplicable decisions re Havertz & Raya, and not buying a top striker, are hurting us.”

Havertz has struggled since his £62m move across London from Chelsea, but the rangey German is still being picked on a fairly regular basis by Arteta.

Despite Morgan's complaints, Arsenal have only just lost their first league game of the season and remain in the hunt for the Premier League title.

They have also struggled more with injuries, particularly after skipper Martin Odegaard was ruled out before kickoff against Newcastle, and have managed well in the league so far.
