The Special One Jose Mourinho might be headed for the Fenerbahce exit door
Jose Mourinho could be on the verge of swapping club football for the international stage, as reports in Turkey suggest he has reached a preliminary agreement with the Portuguese Football Federation.
Despite still being under contract at Fenerbahce, the Special One appears to be plotting a summer switch to lead his country.
Mourinho Edges Closer to National Team Dream
According to reports in Turkey, Mourinho has taken concrete steps toward finalising his move to the Portuguese national team, with a preliminary agreement said to take effect after the UEFA Nations League fixtures in early June.
Despite still having one year left on his deal with Fenerbahce, and the club’s board publicly backing him amid fan discontent, the 62-year-old is reportedly seeking a smooth exit without requiring the federation to pay compensation.
In his first season with Fenerbahce, Mourinho has overseen 53 matches, recording 33 wins, 12 draws, and eight losses, with Fener likely to end the season without a trophy. Though his stats show solid performance, inconsistency and dressing room unrest have made his position a subject of growing debate.
Fenerbahce face uncertainty amid exit rumors
Fenerbahce president Ali Koc has dismissed calls for his own resignation, insisting that the club’s massive investment this season, including hiring Mourinho, was part of a long-term strategy.
Responding to a fan-led petition, Koc said, “I do not find resigning appropriate,” sressing the club’s ambition behind signing big-name players and one of the world’s top managers.
However, if Mourinho departs this summer, Fenerbahce may be left scrambling once again to find stability, just as their rebuild was beginning to take shape.
