Kenya U20 coach Anthony Akhulia has opened up about some of the positives picked at the Africa Cup of Nations and why the country should be proud of the team.
Kenya U20 coach Anthony Akhulia feels the country can feel confident in their team even though they exited the Africa Cup of Nations at the group stage.
Rising Stars could only manage one point following a 3-2 loss to Morocco, 3-1 defeat against Tunisia and a 2-2 draw with Nigeria but exited the tournament with their heads held high following some impressive performances.
The team had some of Kenya’s bright prospects and some of them lived up to the billing while their losses were down to individual mistakes and not a lack of quality, something that gives Akhulia plenty of belief.

“I feel like we let Kenyans down. There were a lot of expectations and belief in us because we had a really good team and we had the ability to do better,” the tactician admitted in an interview with Telecomasia.net.
“But it is a learning process. We played against really tough teams all who have won the tournament before and in all those three games, we were not outplayed in any. We only gave away goals from our own mistakes defensively,” he added, picking positives from their performances.
The U20 team were let down by defensive mistakes, having scored first in all their matches, but showed enough quality to suggest that Kenya’s future is bright if the players can cut out the errors and gain more exposure.
