Harambee Stars striker Michael Olunga is in contention for the award which will be handed on 19th January 2024.

Five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo is currently leading the park to win the inaugural Middle East Player of the Year award with voting ending on Thursday, December 7.

Ronaldo currently tops the polls, with 37.5 percent, followed closely by Egyptian goalkeeper Mohammed El Shenawy, who has accumulated 37.1 percent of the votes.

Karim Benzema is a distant third, having collected 12.7 percent of the votes so far, while Salem El Dasawry, Riyad Mahrez and Anderson Talisca are fourth, fifth and sixth with 5.5, 2.4 and 1.1 percent of the votes respectively.

Harambee Stars striker Michael Olunga has collected 0.8 percent, which puts him joint-seventh alongside Abderrazak Hamdallah in the list so far, ahead of Alejandro Romero, Odion Ighalo, Ali Makhbout and Mourad Batna.

The awarding will take place alongside the 18th Dubai International Sports Conference in partnership with Dubai Sports Council on January 19 at the five-star Atlantis, The Palm.

Olunga has been in stellar form for Al Duhail this year, helping them to win three titles, as well as lift the Qatari Stars League Golden Boot for the second season running.

The achievements have earned him a nomination for the award, which was introduced to recognise the best player playing in the Middle East Asian region.
