Uganda lost 2-1 in the first leg at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru last week and needs to better that result to advance to the second round.

Uganda Crested Cranes face an uphill task on Monday night when they take on Algeria in the second leg of their first round 2024 Africa Women Cup of Nations qualifer.

The Cranes lost 2-1 in the first leg at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru last week and need to better that result to advance to the second round.

The team’s interim head coach Ayub Khalifa has noted that his team is prepared for the task and focused on picking the results.

“We are quite prepared for the game with our mind totally focused on winning,” Khalifa said.

Fauzia Najjemba struck from the spot in the dying minutes of the game to give Uganda faint hopes of qualifying.

Khalifa noted that the star-studded Algerians had heavy legs and expects to capitalize on that.

“We saw them play and noted that they’re a bit slow and we hope to capitalise on that to see that we win by a good margin. We need to win by more than a goal to go through and we assure that we’ll do just that,” he promised.

The match will be officiated by Egyptian Chahenda El Maghribia and will kick off from 9 pm Ugandan time inside the Miloud Hadefi Stadium in Oran, Algeria.
