German football legend Lothar Mathaus sang the praises of Nigerian striker Victor Boniface and believes he will compete with Bayern Munich's Harry Kane until the end for the Golden Boot.

The 22-year-old striker joined Bayer Leverkusen this summer after an impressive campaign with Union Saint Gilloise, where he made the Europa League team of the season.

He has continued his incredible goal-scoring exploits from last season, earning rave reviews from all and sundry.

The Akure-born striker has been thoroughly impressive for Xabi Alonso's side this season, scoring as well as setting up goals for his teammates.

He scored on his debut in the DFB Pokal against Teutonia 05, and although he failed to find the back of the net in his league debut, he grabbed an assist.

What Lothar Mathaus said about Boniface

The former Ballon d'Or winner has been impressed by the striker's time in the German top flight so far and was full of praise.

He highlighted the striker's eye for goal and his general play and believes that he will compete for the Golden Boot.

”You can see that he’s always looking for a goal, but also keeps seeing his team-mates and assisting them, like in the preparation for the first goal against Leipzig,” Matthaus told Sky Deutschland, per the Daily Post.

“We will see a few more goals from him. I see him fighting for the top scorer, going with Harry Kane.”
