Magera is looking to replicate what Sam Timbe (current URA coach) did with Villa almost two decades back, with the most important statistic - the championship.
SC Villa could make it 17 Uganda Premier League titles on Saturday should they successfully fend off opposition from URA FC at the Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.
Should they get crowned champions, they would have ended a 19-year drought, as their last came in 2004.
That season, the Jogoo accumulated 67 points in 29 matches, nine ahead of their nearest rivals KCCA FC.
Juxtaposing the current campaign, Villa at the summit, have 52 points, and with one match left, the best they can tally is 55 points in 28 matches.
This time round though, it's going down to the wire as runners-up Vipers SC trail them by just two points, and, the Venoms can defend it, should Villa fail to win on Saturday.
In 2004, the record holders were the second most potent team with 47 goals, five behind KCCA. They also leaked the fewest number of goals, with just 12.
The same cannot be said about this season, as despite occupying the top, they have so far scored just 27 goals in just as many games, a dismal return.
They have, however, conceded just 19, a decent return only bettered by Vipers, who have allowed in just 13.
The legendary 2004 team managed a huge 21 victories, the most by any team, with KCCA coming second with 17. Villa lost and drew just four apiece for the entire campaign.
This time round, while they have picked 17 victories so far, it's the most of any side, with both Vipers and KCCA following with 14 each.
The Jackson Magera coached side has however lost seven times, which is more than what Vipers (5) KCCA (5) and URA (6) have suffered.
